This Mediterranean-inspired residence was in desperate need of a powder room on the first floor. The home boasted a spacious, main living room which would greatly benefit from an additional bathroom in close proximity. For this project, we wanted to create a special space that seamlessly melded with the home’s original architecture but with a modern touch.
The hunt for the perfect tile began. We landed on a beautiful, five-colorway Spanish-style tile. Since the tile was our springboard for the design we had to painstakingly adjust the arch to ensure the tile pattern repeated without interruption. The 4 x 4” tile size allowed us to arrange the pattern in a continuous way paired with a solid “blue haze” tile to complement the decorative pattern.
We enhanced the arched tile with a recessed vanity mirror. This reflects the opposing wall where the same tiles are carried over and a charming 40” arched niche sits.
For the sink, we went with a hammered rectangular undermount basin by Native Trails and wall mounted brushed nickel faucet that sits in the middle of the tile’s flower pattern. The Mediterranean motif is echoed throughout all the way up to the vintage iron pendant.
After several diagrams and tedious measurements and renderings, we arrived at our Mediterranean gem. The powder room feels as if it was built with the rest of the home in the 1920s.
