For this primary bathroom, our client’s mission was simple: capture the timelessness and elegance of a 1920s bathroom that also includes a towel warmer!
The arches are an important reoccurring feature throughout this residence. We made a statement arch that framed the shower as a focal point of the space. To complement the large arch we used a smaller arched window. We played close attention to each of the arch’s angles to ensure they matched.
Tile would be a significant part of the design so it had to be just right. We selected a black and white tile with beautiful, intricate details. The plans for the tile included ten different-sized tiles to achieve our vision. Black pinstripe tiles break up the white 4x4 tiles and enhance the other types of tile. We used rounded corner tile to nod to the 1920s time period and a basketweave floor tiling to balance the pinstripe. To maintain the black and white theme, we utilized grey grout throughout the floor tiling.
We went with a weighted, yet stylish custom black cabinetry. The doors showcase a soft diamond arch which pairs nicely with the unique vintage art deco pendants. Sourcing two of these was our biggest challenge, but we completed the pair thanks to Ebay.
For the hardware, we effectively mixed metals in a dynamic way. We used polished nickel on the faucets and shower fixtures, gold on the light canopies, and antique brass on the mirrors. The black and gold combination helped to elevate the space.
Finally, finding a place for the towel warmer to live was tricky. We collaborated closely with a contractor and inspector and decided on the quiet end of the spacious shower. This created an elevated, vintage-inspired bathroom with modern amenities.
